Frequently Asked Questions

We hope we are able to answer a few of the common questions. Feel free to contact us if you have additional thoughts or questions.

Do you have to have building skills to volunteer?

While many projects need the assistance of skilled professionals it is not required. There are many ways that non professionals without skilled training can help. We need volunteers that are ready and willing to help with cleaning, landscaping, etc. Additional areas for those that are willing and able to take a little instruction can also help with painting and other areas.

What church does LIVE-IT belong to?

We are members of our Partner churches.

"That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ," Colossians 2:2

"And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, ..." Ephesians 4:11-13

Do you have to be a certain age to volunteer?

We do not have a minimum age requirement, per se. If you have minor children that you would like to train on how to do volunteer work, they must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. It is important that minor children are respectful and mature enough to handle direction and instruction.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Do you have a safety orientation?

Yes, we provide a safety orientation that is required for all volunteers to take prior to going out on a project site.

Do I have to bring any supplies with me to volunteer?

All volunteers need to bring certain items with them when volunteering on a build site.

  • Closed toe shoes (Must be steel toed if working on construction or demolition)
  • Safety Glasses and/or Sunglasses
  • Work Gloves
  • Epi-pen (for allergies as necessary)
  • Bug Spray (Recommended)
  • Sunscreen (Recommended)

Volunteers to the Thrift Store are only required to have closed toe shoes on while working in or around the store. Volunteers may want to bring gloves and/or back brace as they feel needed.

What is the LIVE-IT Vision?

To mobilize the Body of Christ to eradicate poor living conditions and to change lives in our community. 1John 3:17-18

What is the LIVE-IT Mission?

To seek and serve the needs of our community by using the gifts and talents of volunteers to advance the Kingdom of God through service to their neighbors; to teach it is a greater blessing to give than to receive.

What does LIVE-IT do for Widows, Orphans and others in need?

LIVE-IT works in a number of different ways to create decent, safe home environments.

  • LIVE-IT helps locals in Sevier county make repairs to their homes that could not otherwise be accomplished due serious financial and/or skill deficiencies.
    • In extreme situations, New Construction and/or home rebuilds may be determined a more cost effective option.
  • LIVE-IT brings church ambassadors and isolated/home bound individuals together for emotional support and encouragement.
  • LIVE-IT works with local community leaders to address a variety of housing needs after natural disasters.
  • LIVE-IT advocacy work raises awareness about isolated souls in Sevier County that need help to build hope.
  • LIVE-IT works to find financial and volunteer support from caring individuals, area churches and local business organizations.

Do you have any information on housing for volunteers coming from out of town?

There are many hotels, cabins and chalets to choose from when visiting the Smoky Mountains. Nationally recognized online travel service providers will give you numerous options. TheSmokys.us also has links to some of the area attractions and lodging options. Eden Crest, a local supporter of LIVE-IT, offers one of their resorts as a place to enjoy your Evang-a-cation.

How Does LIVE-IT pay for home builds and repairs?

LIVE-IT depends entirely on financial donations to fund our work. These donations help widows, orphans and others in need build a place they can call home. Visit our donation page to learn more.

We also have a Thrift Store where we sell clothes, furniture and appliances to the public. The money made from these sales is used to help families build hope. To donate materials visit our Thrift Store on Chapman Highway.

  • For vehicle, boat or property donations, please contact us to discuss.
